City Group Guide: Renewed Families — Christ-centered Homes

Deuteronomy 6:4–9 & Joshua 24:15

1. Setting the Kingdom Vision (10 min)

Family is one of God's primary places for discipleship and formation. While no family is perfect, God calls us to build homes marked by love, grace, truth, and faithfulness.

The goal of a Christian family is not perfection but creating an environment where Jesus is known, followed, and reflected.

"As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord." — Joshua 24:15

Discussion:

  • What values shaped your family growing up?

  • What kind of home do you want to build?

  • Why is intentionality important in family life?

  • How can our homes become places of discipleship?

(Leader note: be sensitive to different family experiences, including grief, brokenness, and difficult relationships.)

2. Guide Overview: A Household of Faith (2 min)

Tonight we'll reflect on how God renews our families and invites us to create homes centered on His presence and purposes.

3. Kingdom Practice: Building Spiritual Rhythms (30 min)

Step 1: Read the Passage (5 min)

Read Deuteronomy 6:4–9 and Joshua 24:15 aloud together.

Pause and ask:

  • "What stands out to you from these passages?"

  • "What responsibility do we have in shaping our homes?"

Step 2: Reflect (5 min)

Quietly reflect:

  • "What values currently shape my home?"

  • "What changes would help my family follow Jesus more intentionally?"

  • "Where is God inviting me to lead with grace and love?"

Step 3: Share and Pray (15 min)

Invite everyone to share one hope or challenge related to family life.

Pray:

"Lord, help our homes become places of love, grace, truth, and discipleship. Teach us to lead our families toward You."

Step 4: Group Reflection (5 min)

Discuss together:

  • What practical rhythms help build a Christ-centered home?

  • How can families prioritize faith in busy seasons?

  • What impact can healthy families have on a community?

4. Reflection: Serving the Lord Together (5 min)

Re-read Joshua 24:15:

"As for me and my household, we will serve the Lord."

Reflect:
What is one intentional step you can take to help your home grow spiritually this week?

5. Exercise for the Week Ahead (3 min)

Practice: A Household of Faith

  • Pray together as a family at least once this week.

  • Share one way you've seen God at work recently.

  • Practice one act of intentional encouragement in your home.

  • Create one small spiritual rhythm that can continue beyond this week.

Closing Prayer

"Father, thank You for the gift of family. Help our homes become places where Your love, grace, and truth are experienced and shared. May our households serve You faithfully and reflect Your Kingdom to the world. Amen."
