The heart was created to worship God, yet idols often compete for our affection and trust. Jesus calls us to wholehearted devotion and freedom from false gods.

“They exchanged the truth about God for a lie…” — Romans 1:25

Discussion:

  • What are modern-day idols people commonly struggle with?

  • Why do idols often promise fulfillment but leave us empty?

  • How does Jesus restore our hearts?

2. Guide Overview: Wholehearted Worship (2 min)

Tonight we’ll reflect on the things that compete for God’s place in our hearts and how Jesus renews our desires.

3. Kingdom Practice: Heart Examination (30 min)

Step 1: Read the Passage (5 min)

Read Romans 1:25 and Ezekiel 36:26.

Step 2: Reflect (5 min)

  • “What do I turn to for comfort, identity, or security besides God?”

  • “What area of my heart needs surrender?”

Step 3: Share and Pray (15 min)

Share honestly about one area where God is inviting deeper surrender.

Pray:

“Jesus, renew our hearts and teach us to worship You above all else.”

Step 4: Group Reflection (5 min)

  • How do idols affect relationships and priorities?

  • What practices help keep Jesus at the center?

What would wholehearted devotion look like this week?

5. Exercise for the Week Ahead (3 min)

Practice: Heart Surrender

  • Identify one distraction or idol to surrender.

  • Spend intentional time worshipping and praying daily.

  • Practice gratitude instead of comparison or striving.
