City Group Rhythms
These Formation Guides are part of our community’s rhythm of living as apprentices of Jesus—people being shaped by His Kingdom in everyday life. As a community, we walk in three rhythms:
Formation, where we learn and practice the way of Jesus together (these guides) & take communion together once per month.
Family, where we gather around a table to share life, meals, and stories or activity.
Mission, where we live out God’s love in our neighborhoods and city in practical ways.
Each rhythm helps us live a balanced life in the Kingdom—rooted in God, connected to one another, and sent into the world in love.
Our Formation rhythm happens twice a month, and each guide is designed to take about one to two hours. Every time we gather, we will:
Center our hearts on Scripture
Reflect together on what the Spirit is forming in us & through us
Practice prayer or action that helps us live what we learn
These guides are not about getting everything right—they’re about creating space for the Spirit to work slowly and deeply in us, shaping us into a people who look more like Jesus.
Leader tip: Move at the pace of grace. The goal isn’t to rush through the material but to be attentive to what God is doing in your group.
Father, as we gather around Your Word and Your presence, form us into a people who live life in of Your Kingdom. Teach us to listen, to love, and to live like Jesus—full of light, mercy, and peace. Let Your Kingdom come, and let it begin with us. Amen.
Family:
The Family Guides are part of our shared rhythm of life together as a community following Jesus. If Formation is where we learn His ways, and Mission is where we live them out, then Family is where we practice belonging—to God and to one another.
In a world that prizes independence and speed, the Kingdom of God grows slowly through relationships marked by love, patience, and presence. These gatherings are meant to help us live as the family of God, creating spaces of welcome, joy, and care.
Each Family rhythm is simple: eat, share, and pray together. You might share a meal in someone’s home, meet at a park, or gather around a table after church. The point isn’t perfection—it’s connection.
Family nights happen once a month, and they’re meant to be unhurried—a space to strengthen relationships, tell stories of what God is doing, and celebrate the goodness of life together.
Whether you’re laughing over dinner, going to the Lake or just meeting at home, the goal is community and family.
Leader tip: Keep it simple. Focus less on structure and more on presence. Make sure everyone is seen, heard, and valued—especially newer or quieter voices.
Mission:
These Mission Guides are part of our rhythm of living as Kingdom apprentices in the world, helping us move beyond formation into active participation in God’s work around us. As a community, we are called to be missionary disciples—followers of Jesus whose lives bring His Kingdom into neighborhoods, workplaces, and relationships.
We encourage everyone to engage with local partners and the opportunities God has placed nearby. This can take many forms:
Volunteering together as a group with a local ministry or nonprofit each month
Giving financially to support local partners and Kingdom work in the city
Using your own influence, skills, or resources to bless people in your personal spheres of life
The goal is not just activity for activity’s sake, but to live as missionaries in our daily lives, seeing and serving the needs around us as an expression of God’s love. Each guide is designed to take about one to two hours, giving your group space to learn about a partner, pray for the work, and plan practical ways to engage as a team.
Leader tip: Encourage creativity and adaptability. God’s mission often shows up in unexpected ways. The guide is a starting point—pay attention to what the Spirit is inviting your group to do together.
